Alice Griffith is an existing 256-unit public housing development owned and managed by the San Francisco Housing Authority. It will be redeveloped into 504 units of multifamily, mixed-income housing (i.e., 256 replacement public housing units and 248 affordable units) on seven blocks. The seven blocks are located on parts of the existing site and also on vacant land adjacent to the current public housing. The development will include a management/leasing office, community facilities, on-site (structured) parking, tot lots and green space.
A joint venture project with Baines Group Inc., phases I and II (Blocks 2 and 4) will consist of 93 units and 91 units, respectively, for a total of 184. Block 1 will consist of 122 apartment units over a concrete at grade parking structure. Each block will consist of apartment units over a concrete at grade parking structure. The units will consist of one, two and three bedroom units in four stories over a podium, three and four bedroom townhouses, and units fronting the parking structure facing the street. Each building will have a courtyard on top of the podium (2nd level) and community space.
The Alice Griffith HOPE SF Redevelopment Project will be a mixed-income community with a diverse range of housing types. It will serve as a link between the overall larger Hunters Point Shipyard / Candlestick Point development and the surrounding Bayview area. Per the initial Hunters Point Shipyard / Candlestick Point Master Plan, most of the steep grades that created additional barriers to pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be re-graded. The new Alice Griffith community will be planned around a centrally located community park that extends the length of the new development. The site will continue to be occupied during construction.
